OPEN16
What is art?
It might seem like a ridiculous question to ask, but we think otherwise. We think it gets dismissed or taken for grated too often. We are not asking the question because we want the answer. On the contrary, we are asking the question because we want more questions. 'What is art?' is more a conversation than a question. The beautiful thing in trying to answer it is that the conversation can lead you towards opposite ends of a spectrum. Could a blue painting prevent a war? Could a marble sculpture reform religion? Could an abstract shape prevent suicide? OPEN16 is an open call that invites artists, creative individuals, and/or anyone interested in creating and thinking to take part in this conversation about limitless boundaries of art. OPEN16 is not going to answer any questions, come up with an explanation, or solve your problems, but it will help start a conversation about thoughts, colors, forms, shapes, and materials in the hopes of seeding new ideas. Not to mention the possibility of a solo show.
OPEN16 is not an open call where there are winners and losers. We are organizing an open call where every work of art plays an important roll in how we view a body of art as a whole and try to understand why some work stands out more than others. Ultimately, we can have a conversation about how it is we reached the decision of selecting one artists for a show. Open call transparency.
OPEN16, our second annual open call dedicated to universal and vast world of the arts, is now open. Any creative individual that wishes to submit work of any medium, style, shape or form is invited to participate. There is are no restrictions to content, style or medium. Our only restriction, due to the physical constraints of the gallery, is no work larger than 60” x 60” inches will be considered.
OPEN16 is an open call about art appreciation, discussion, and critique.

JUDGING
CRITERIA: Originality - Technical skill - Critical thinking. The criteria is only a basis for the review process. There are many factors that come into play during the jurying process. As we all know, art can be rooted in subjective ideas and critiques, especially with non-technical and abstract art. The selected artists are those who present new ideas for thoughtful conversation. Technical skill might not enough to land you a place in our top selection. We want to see ideas, we want thinkers, and we want to challenge the conventions of art. We are not here to help you decorate someones living room, although if it happens great! We are here to help you make people happy, angry, sad, and possibly even re-think the way they have been living their lives.
